The Community College Professor Conference grew out of Dr. Elizabeth Walker and Prof. Amber Gillis teaching within Southern California for almost two decades. They both had a journey of trial and error, and they want to provide more guidance to those who are interested in the journey of higher education.
Dr. Elizabeth Walker
At the age of 25, I started teaching English at Christian Community College and Compton College. Sixteen years later, I have taught throughout Southern California as a Part-Time faculty member within the field of English and Political Science. Currently, I am a Full-Time faculty member at College of the Desert. Throughout this process, I have been a member of ASCCC, and I have spoken across the United States at countless conferences.
It was this journey that I became a teacher-scholar-practitioner. Much of my scholarship as a qualitative researcher, as I am a historian who wants to explain the world around us through uncovering the tapestry of stories that demonstrates our shared humanity.

Professor Amber Gillis
Amber Gillis is a tenured professor and has been working in the California Community Colleges for 14 years.
Her experience includes serving as the academic senate president, accreditation faculty coordinator, SLO coordinator, and on the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Executive Committee.
